WHY I'm Running
This moment demands it.
Loyalty to party has become a surrender of the very independence that defines being an American. Not independence as a slogan — independence as a duty. The duty to think for yourself, to say what is true, and to answer to your neighbors instead of your leadership.
Party candidates have chosen to be part of a system that silences them. Cross the party, lose the money. Cross the party, lose the primary. And so they will not and cannot cross the party. That fear has produced an abdication of Congress's most basic duty: to legislate. To negotiate. To find the better compromise.
I am running as an independent because it is the only way to do this job the way it was designed to be done. I answer to the voters of Virginia's 2nd District. No one else gets a vote.
Our founders saw this coming. Washington used his farewell address to warn that party loyalty would one day displace loyalty to the Constitution itself. That parties would open the door to demagogues. That the spirit of faction would erode our ability to govern ourselves. That day has come.
